Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco - is a Canadian and American musician and singer. Her work has been featured on over 20 albums of studio work. DiFranco classifies her music as folk-rock and alternative. But it includes influences like punk, hip-hop and jazz. A feminist icon widely recognized as Grammy recipient Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement, and was among the first artists to create her own record label in the year 1990. DiFranco has two daughters: Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They began their relationship in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her mother hails from Montreal and her father is of Italian origins. Her song 32 Flavors was written by her, and performed by Ani. This song appears on her album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. A variation of the song is featured on the movie soundtrack of 1999's Canadian romance film Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco made an apology public in 2013, following the revelation that it emerged that she had scheduled a three-day conference at a Louisiana plantation. The workshop was cancelled, but the majority of people (including this piece) didn't detect remorse. DiFranco released a new apology a few days later. Although she is best known as Little Folksinger, her music encompasses many different genres. Her collaborators range from Pete Seeger and Chuck D to Prince. New Orleans is her home.
